Nov. 19, 2008 – Court Date with St. Mary’s: A Review

St. Mary’s lawyers did not show up on time to the 1:00pm hearing at the Tokyo Civil Court in Kasumigaseki. Of 3 lawyers listed on their side, one stood outside, because the proceedings had started without him. None of their lawyers were present at the hearing.

St. Mary’s had submitted a 1-page statement that “they dispute all claims” of the plaintiff. But, they did not specify which claims and no details were given regarding the nature of the evidence they have prepared to use to dispute the claims.

The plaintiff asked for an open-court throughout the proceedings and it was granted. A large meeting room instead of a courtroom will be used in order to allow a translator from the Tokyo South General Worker’s Labor Union to sit next to her according to seating rules.
